Shandong University of Finance and Economics (SDUFE) was established on July 4, 2011 through the merger of Shandong Economic University and Shandong University of Finance. School of Marxism of SDUFE was established through the merger of Marxism and Leninism Teaching and Research Department of Shandong Economic University and the Teaching and Research Department of Ideological and Political Theory of Shandong University of Finance in October of the same year.
At present, there are 79 faculty members in the School of Marxism, including 74 full-time teachers. There are 8 professors, 33 associate professors, 45 teachers with doctor's degree (including PhD students) and 16 master student supervisors. One teacher was selected as the excellent young and middle-aged ideological and political theory teachers of the Ministry of Education, one teacher was chosen as the influential nominees of the National University Ideological and Political Theory Teachers in 2014, one was elected as the rookie pioneer of Social Science in Shandong Province, two was chosen as the "100 Talents Project" members of Shandong theoretical talents, two was selected as the "100 Projects" of the excellent young and middle-aged ideological and political theory teachers of Shandong Province, two was chosen as famous teacher's studio of ideological and political theory course of Shandong Province, and one was selected as young excellent talent support planner of Shandong University of Finance and Economics.
The school of Marxism consists of four teaching departments: the teaching department of basic principles of Marxism, the teaching department of the introduction to Mao Zedong Thought and the theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the teaching department of the outline of modern Chinese history, and the teaching department of the ideological and moral cultivation and legal basis. There are two school level research institutions: the International Institute of Politics and Economy and the Research Center for Harmonious Development. The school has a master's degree authorization point for the first level discipline of Marxist theory, including four second-level disciplines, namely, basic principles of Marxism, research on Sinicization of Marxism, ideological and political education, and research on basic issues of modern Chinese history. Ideological and political education is the key discipline of Shandong University of Finance and Economics. School of Marxism mainly undertakes the teaching task of ideological and political theory course for undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as the construction and scientific research of Marxist theory discipline. In recent years, School of Marxism has actively promoted the teaching reform, increased the strength of the ideological and political theory teaching reform from the perspective of the whole, which has been recognized by the majority of teachers, students and the society. The Dazhong Daily, Shandong University of Finance and Economics newspaper and other medias have given key reports and promotion to the practice of the overall ideological and political theory teaching reform of the college.
The school of Marxism attaches great importance to scientific research, and has formed certain research characteristics in the domains of history of Marxism communication, socialism with Chinese characteristics, harmonious thought, national security strategy, etc.
In 2016, the school of Marxism was rated as "Key Marxism School of Shandong Province". In the same year, "Marxist theory" was rated as the first-class discipline of key construction of Shandong University of Finance and Economics.
